Paddle fishing early..... then board building later..

At the H2O Sports shop spraying gel-coat on the 11 ft all round mold. Laying down a batch of white colored SUP's. Second of five..Glassing and foam shaping tomorrow

....................................................................................................................

In the morning went SUP fishing with Jesse . Seen so many schools of redfish in the flat shallow areas around docks and marsh grass. Had a couple of hits but did not hook up on any. Some were big hogs swimming under the board. ( 30 '' plus range). Maybe they were too spooked or my lures were not to enticing. Doesn't matter, we were out paddling the glassy water on a beautiful warm winter day with not another person around .. Priceless... Thanks for the pics Jesse

Paddling Jarvis Creek to Honey Horn Plantation..

Jesse, Heather and I paddled from Pickney Island up into Jarvis Creek all the way to Honey Horn Plantation. A just shy of a 9 mile paddle. We explored the marsh and creek shooting pics and having a relaxing paddle sharing life's stories like school yard kids at recess..
I came across a true local Martin Luther ( ML ) paddling his narrow canoe Stand Up style collecting oysters. I chatted with him for a while and I was very humbled when he has been oystering this way since the early 70's. His Pappy and GrandPappy taught him how to travel on the water in this manner oystering and fishing. I figure Hilton Head Stand Up Paddling has been around at least since the 30's according to ML, and probably way earlier. A primitave form of transportation to live and sustain life.. I'm Truely Humbled watching ML paddle the narrow rolled bottom vessel with a load of oysters as if it was nothing. . Imagine him on a modern SUP.. tooooooo easy ... Here is my hero for today. ML gettin his paddle on...

A little slide show of our paddle today...

Here is Heathers quote......"""""When the character of a person is not immediately apparent, take a look at his/her closest friends"... I didn't think anything could top the feeling I get while surfing. But today my friends... my family... showed me what it means to be thoughtful of your friends. The squishiest.... thank you Giuseppe Picone and Glen Barroncini .. (My heart is full, and my eyes still watery :)""

Out in the Surf .... Yeaaaaaa

......its been a long while since I've been in the surf riding waves. Felt good to paddle, getting lifted up and gaining speed as you look down upon the wave. Set the paddle allowing your rail to set on edge projecting you across the face of the wave.. You start looking for to open wave face to redirect you turn off the top of the lip. only to repeat the process again. Then when you kick out and the wave is over the excitement continues as you paddle out thru the breaking waves getting back to the takeoff spot. Its a full circle of joy not only riding waves but paddling back out is also thrilling.. Full on involvement all session.. LOVE IT....

SUP Regulations ?

Should Stand Up Paddle Surfing be regulated ? Here is an outtake from ''A Stand Up Paddle Movie'' which explores this topic of SUP regulations..
Lucky for us here on Hilton Head we have 6-8 miles of surf able beaches and four to five areas that are surfed regularly. We all know each other and we are one huge SURFING family. As a Stand Up Paddler we do have the luxury of paddling up and down the beach finding my own peak to ride.. The accessibly to other areas become easily available when you can paddle to another particular spot. Thats what we do...But as some of the comments in the clip state; There is always going to be someone who will be feel offended about another person in all walks of life.. Its all about sharing this Earth and having fun.. and promoting RESPECT.......PERIOD.....

Sub Vector , again......

I obtained a 9'-3'' Sub Vector from a fellow Charleston SUP'er.. A metallic green in color with a quad fin set up. Funny how things come in full circle. Over three years ago Jamie and I purchased our first performance SUP 's, the 9-3 Sub Vectors. I went on to continue to explore performance surf SUPs .. The result are Paddle Surf Hawaii's and this model seem to work the best for me in our fickle Eastcoast surf..

In 2012 I'm looking forward in sampling another great SUP manufacturer .. (Name withheld for the moment.. but will be exposed in due time.. ) In the meantime the surf still breaks and one must have the tools to ride them..

......ITS ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN....

12 mile downwinder

Jesse and I paddled from the north end of the Island to Tower Beach about 12 miles. We had NW winds at 15 knots following seas when we started. As the day progressed the wind lightened up,the seas went calm, the sun warmed our face and soul sharing the day with my good friend.... Dolphins playing in the surfline followed us for a while have become my ''Aumakua''.. ( protector or spiritual support) .. Since my Mom passed away in Dec, several of my paddles in Florida and my first paddle here, now back on Hilton Head, I have encountered dolphins as I always do.. But recently since Dec, they seem to follow me, play along side of me and their presence seem more interactive as I paddle in their world. I believe my Mom is using these great mammals to help her watch over me and safeguard my daily pursuits.. I now have adopted and accepted the dolphins as my AUMAKUA.

... I know too deep for you guys ..Sorry..

back on Hilton Head..

Starboard SUP has a great line of SUP models over 50 models to choose from...cruising, fishing, racing, softtop, Inflatable and many surf style SUPs. Great things happening with Starboard Brushed Carbon , AST silver and wood veneer models .. some eye candy for your pleasure..

Kialoa Paddles have some new paddles out for racing, adjustable models , price point models and improved carbon fiber technology for there complete line.

BOARDWORKS
-New for Paddle Surf Hawaii they are adding the PSH 8’11 Hull Ripper,

a 10’0 Xtra Wide All Arounder, 12’6 Hull Paddler.

The long awaited Mini Mods are finally here. Available in sizes 7’10, 8’5, 8’8, 9’1, and 9’6 these boards are designed to be performance surf SUPs but are also a good choice for smaller paddlers looking for a light-weight recreational paddleboard with ample stability. What makes the Mini Mod unique is that it is thinner than most boards on the market which allows the surfer to easily set the rail in bottom and top turns. The board sits lower in the water which allows for less “bobbing” from rail to rail. It has a wide tail which also adds to the stability. The Mini Mod was designed to excel in playful sized surf much like many of the popular alternative surfboards on the market today.

FANATIC for 2012 , has a new line of Fly models, CF race boards, soft top technology and two new surf style boards..

I'm back ready to hit the local waters refreshed and renewed, ready to share the passion of SUP and Surfing with everyone. I have experienced a life altering event that has given me a reinvigorated outlook on life and the world I participate in.

Thank you

Long paddle exploration.

Paddled with a playful dolphin today. Was exploring in the shallow flats and this little 6 ft Bottle nosed dolphin followed me, did several swim bye's, slapped the tail splashing about a few times and charged me only to dive under and swerve away. He put on a 30 min show for me. I was honored... Then I paddle out west from the flats to this Island about 1 mile or so offshore. It looked like Gilligian's Island as I approached. It was small, 100' x 40' maybe, with some palms and vegetation. Cool little place a couple miles from no where.. Great day. But isn't' everyday on the water GREAT...

"Say hellow to my little friend''
