Two new SUP'ers hooked...

Today the 2.1ft at 8 sec swell with no wind made for a great day to learn SUP surfing and allow us to get out there hand have fun.. Long time local Surfer Rick Lawson and 16 yr old Sean DeLoach getting hooked on SUP. Rick obviously understanding that SUP allows you more water time and makes one reinvigreating about surfing again. Sean just finding a new medium to ride waves. We all shared the small glassy surf. Jesse pushing the agressive radical side to SUP powerful tail gouges and popping airs, Jamie just being fluid, flowing with the wave, Brandon experimenting many surf craft to riding waves, and myself, just happy to be in the moment enjoying riding waves with friends.

MAHALO to Jesse with the  Go Pro pics making us look good.

...sorry Sean, but being humbled is a lesson learned..

We are offering 3 and 6 mile SUP races with Male & Female Race Divisions: Unlimited, 14' Race; 12'6" Race; and 12'6" and under recreational. There will also be a 1 mile Kid's race for kids ages 12 and under. Also, there is a 3 mile kayak race with Male and Female Divisions: recreational/touring and "race design."

Awards in all adult race divisions will go to the top 3 overall; first in each age group (10 year increments beginning with 20 so 20-29, 30-39, and so on...note: the first age division is 13-19...) All kids will receive an award so their race will not be scored as such. The first 10 people registered for ANY class or division of the 6 mile SUP will receive a free hoodie. There will also be the option to order a hoodie in the registration process for $25.00.
Broad Creek is a great place to paddle. The races will start and finish on the water at Broad Creek Marina, Simmons Road, Hilton Head Island, SC. The races will begin around 1:00 pm and you'll paddle into the falling tide...but you'll ride it back! The 1 mile kid's race and 3 mile race will be out and back to turn buoys. The 6 mile race paddles to the end of Broad Creek, does the loop at the end (Old Oyster Factory loop) and returns to the marina.

Post race goodies will be supplied by Up The Creek Pub...a cool little joint at the marina.

South Beach Marina Paddle

Finally a beautiful day to get out and really enjoy the warm sun and paddle. Jesse and I put in at South Beach Marina where the Dredging of the Marina and channel is going on. All that heavy equipment and cold water  not a soul was on the water. If only for a couple hours it was great to get out and paddle.

Jesse on his new 7-6 Stu Sharpe

Jesse's maiden voyage on his new Custom 7-6 Stu Sharpe.  He was fortunate to get some solo waves on his newly acquired board. Usually when you get a new board the Ocean goes flat for awhile and makes you wait with anticipation and angest while your new board sits unused having to wipe dust off the board before it gets wet..Looks like he's getting it wired.. Just wait till the wetsuit comes off.

….. looks small doesn't it…..

Kialoa Insanity Paddles

Crazy Light , Crazy Strong, Crazy Affordable

Brand New KIALOA Insanity FG Carbon Fiber SUP Paddle. A premium all-around paddle at a below premium price. The Insanity Carbon blade with the RST carbon fiber shaft.
  • Blade Material: Carbon Fiber
  • Shaft Material: Carbon Fiber
  • Shaft Shape: RST Round shaft technology
  • Grip: carbon Ergo-T or Palm Grip
  • Weighs only 19 oz
This a great paddle Very light and feels great in you hand as you paddle. Casual paddling & just exploring the paddle works awesome thru all phases of the stroke, the catch, power phase and release.. I applied power to the stroke springing and the shave felt a little stiff  ( not much flex in shaft ) and felt the torque on my shoulders. It accelerated in the waves. quick bursts strokes gets you going and the light weight in switching sides was easy while maneuvering on the wave. The only difference between my Methane paddle and the Insanity paddle is the oval tapered shaft on the Methane and round shaft on the insanity. I prefer the oval design fitting anatomically  in your hand as the Insanity's light weight is forgiving so you don't really notice the hand positioning between the two . The price is a lot more affordable then the high end Methane/GL ect.. Plus the durability of this new paddle is second to none for performance. Kialoa has a winner with this new paddle.

SUP'erBowl Sunday session

Jesse and I were lucky to get a couple waves this morning. The waves were small but  the warmer air temps unlike last weeks frozen tundra made it appear better.  This is how winter should be..
