First H2O Sports Molded SUP

After a month or so of making a SUP plug, building a shaping, sanding and a glassing booth, making fiberglass molds of each; a deck and bottom, and doing test panels figuring out the glass layups. Pat Lemehaute and I made our first H2O Paddle board. We popped it out this morning and was paddling on it by afternoon. Pat LeMehaute familiar with molded boards ( Berky
Composits windsurf boards from 80's and 90's ) created the board and mold. The board's dims. 11' x 33'' x 4&7/8 a beast of a SUP made for lessons, learning and its stability. A low rockered flat bottom simple design made to be a floaty buoyant board with little tipping. First one was great but we need to get the kinks out and will be ready for the next one in a week.
----------------------------------
Pat Spraying the gel coat over the molds

multiple epoxy glass and core mat lay ups creating a flange for top to bottom seal and
fin box placement.
support the rails with 2 mil core mat
Templitated hot wired EPS foam being inserted between the two top and bottom molds
Sandwiching the lay up glassed molds with the foam in the middle. Then epoxied and vacuumed for final seal between top and bottom

Like Xmas, popping the mold to reveal a molded SUP
Pure white SUP some imperfections ( have to work them out)

Fin and deck pad for its water test today. Water had to be 50*F or lower , my toes were cold.
Floats and paddles great in the 15 min test. Wind was whipping and air temp in the low 50's ..Will have to try it in the surf and a longer paddle.
First board , the next will be better.

2-4' ft fun clean waves.. '' grey and cold''

We had some fun surf today as the winds went from NNE to NW in the middle of our session. Booties, gloves and hoods were part of the equipment needed today. The water dropped to 53*f and air temp at 50*f . Three hours of pure paddle Stoke.. Jamie, Scott, Pat L. and I were out for while joined by Seppe and Heather.. Scott got some fun waves, and using the paddle to crank some turns. Pat scored one of the larger set waves with a 50 -60 yard right, (rare for here). Jamie was on it all day as I grabbed some great waves, took pics and had the GoPro on the board. Have to edit the footage and will post later.

Flat ocean 5 mile downwinder

Giuseppe and I paddled on our flat ocean today. Last warm day before the front swings down and cools us down to the low low 30's for the next few days. Seppe paddled on his custom Pat LeMehaute Race Shaped SUP with Seppe's custom paint job. Was a great 5 mile paddle with light SW winds .
