Dad Stand up paddling

Took Dad out for some paddle surfing in Broad Creek. The first time ever on any board.

At 75 years young and just 12 weeks after his second full knee replacement he's up and paddling.

Had the honor to paddle with Ashley Fox who is visiting Hilton Head Island this week. This morning around 8 am, we went for a paddle from Cross Island Boat Launch. Her first time on a Stand Up and in 10 minutes was up and paddling. She became very comfortable and started to improve her paddling technique in no time. She switched boards from an easy large learner SUP to a smaller SUP with ease. We went for a good 2-3 mile paddle around Broad Creek. We chatted and cruised at a leisurely pace. She is a very interesting young lady, traveled the world and I wish her luck in her Graduate Studies in Mew Mexico. With her huge smile on her face,I think she's hooked on Stand Up Paddling............ Thanks Ashely....................................................

Wave Heights Western Atlantic from Bertha as of July 10th

This chart shows the wave heights in the Western Atlantic from Hurricane Bertha as of July 10th am report..... The wave heights around the Atlantic basin and the arrows show direction.. Starting to look good. I will finally able to Stand Up Paddle Surf in some real waves..

...............................Jamie Maples returns to the water and SUP'ing after a painful 4 weeks of rehab on a broken foot. Having an operation on his right foot having five screws and plate put in to help mend the bone, he's back in the water. Just under 4 weeks of the operation (July 10th ) he was able to hop along the shoreline and get on his board. We planned the night before to meet and get him out in the surf. I told Jamie I would be his ""BE-OTCH''' and cart the SUP and get him in and out of the water. As soon as he entered the surf he prone paddled to the outside the surf zone and was able to stand for a bit and paddle around in the little 1-2 ft surf. The instant smile on his face made his day and mine. It was a gift to me being able to share the experience of a friend knowing it made an great impact on Jamie, being able to get out on the water again after 5 weeks of suffering. There was pep in his step.. We shared a lot of waves. He sat on the board like '' a waveski'' for many waves. I saw one wave where he was in the pocket leaning in the wave getting shampoo'd by the foam. STOKED""" Looks like he will be back.. Thanks Jamie, glad I was there for you... Glen

APS supporting the ''Cape Cod Bay Challenge''

Bob Babcock AKA.. Stoneaxe contacted me a while ago if I was interested in paddling his Cape Cod Bay Challenge . - A 22 Mile Stand-up Paddle Marathon to Promote Ocean Conservation and Coastal Clean Up . This August 9th, 2008 a small group of stand-up paddle surfers will attempt a 22 mile marathon paddle across Cape Cod Bay from Plymouth to Provincetown to raise awareness and money to help stop the ever growing problem of pollution in our oceans and along our shores. Trash in the ocean kills more than one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals and turtles each year through ingestion and entanglement. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Ocean Conservancy, a non-profit dedicated to promoting healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems. Part of the proceeds of this event will go towards the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Campaign on September 20, 2008. The International Coastal Cleanup is a year-round volunteer effort to keep our oceans and waterways free of trash – and healthier for humans and marine life.

Unfortunately I can not attend the event but I promised Bob that I would donate so, I'll be sending Atlantic Paddle Surfing T-Shirts up for the volunteers and paddlers in the event.

I paddled tonight with good friends Cathy and Andy Borgmeier. The seas were somewhat choppy with small crossed up swells floating bye. Tough to learn but both caught on and found their balance and paddled for a while. Their 8 month old daughter Judy was at the beach so when she sat on the SUP, of course it was photo time.
