Tuesday am. Surf Forcast July 1st

We still have strong SW winds at 20 knots Monday night. Buoys still reading 5.6 at 8 sec. and 3.9 at 10 sec w/ steep wave conditions. This will continue to provide the small wind swell we have been getting the last few days. We have a high tide at 6:50 am Tues. morning. NWS. forecasts predict a West wind for the morning. This can provide some clean surf at about thigh high, 2-3 ft. I would get on it at first light. If the moderate west winds continue thru the day as predicted, the wind swell will diminish and we will be back to small to flat surf conditions for the evening tide. The Mid week surf forecast looks small thru Thursday/Friday.

Going to head over to Hunting Island State Park for a Tuesday Paddle Surf before the swell dies. Will post the session later Tues. night.

Monday June 30th Surf Report

Waves this morning were the same as Yesterday. John and I paddled for an hour. Caught some fun little thigh high waves. Lined up but were greeted w/ heavy west winds hard to drop in. The west winds were 20 knots for the first 1/2 hour then came onshore. The SW. winds and swell will continue to grace our beaches. High tide at 6:18 pm tonight and will have choppy conditions.
Buoys still reading some waves offshore but steep intervals. Some pics of the surf this morning. The two pics of John were to blurry to post. Need a new camera. ( Waterproof)

Sunday 6/29 5:50 am SUP Session

Jesse and I paddled out at 5:50 am, still pretty dark. The short paddle out felt as if we were drunk sailors due to the low light and lack of depth perception not seeing horizon or land. I felt unbalanced for a few minutes. Its and unsettling feeling to experience when in the ocean. Was a 5:15 am high tide. So we has an out going tide and semi side offshore winds made for some thigh high waves roll through for a fun session . The only thing missing other than larger surf was our buddy, Jamie. Jesse and I agreed that these waves we rode are for you. Get better and we'll see in the water very soon.

There is a small swell gracing our beaches so look for some fun little waves at high tide this afternoon at 5:40 pm. The S.W. wind will be on it but its summer surf.

Torres girls go Paddle Surfing.

Janie Torres , Hooked on Paddle Surfing
Aunna Torres, ''I'm hooked too, and love nature.''
Torres Girls, a sisterly bond forever

Had the pleasure this morning to paddle with two girls from Ohio who are here all summer. Mom wanted to give the girls every opportunity available, so today was Paddle Surfing and experience the thrill of this board sport . Janie Torres age 13, and Aunna Torres age 11, paddled surf today. It was a real low tide and shallow for them to learn. The two girls were up standing in 15 min. Smiles glowed from their faces and as the hour or so passed they became more comfortable, started to play and share that sisterly bond. I know there hooked and we'll plan for another go-out. Great job Aunna and Janie..

Surf Forcast for the weekend of the 27,28&29th

Looks like the the S.W. and South winds will increase during the day. This will provide some waves in the Knee to Thigh high range in the surf. . A small weak onshore flow for 5 days has produced a little swell that has started to show on our beaches. The buoy's are reading; 5.2 ft and 9 sec at Edisto and 3.6 ft at 10 sec. at Gray's reef.

I have my own formula to figure out wave size on the beach from this data.

Formula: EXAMPLE....I average out the two #'s (wave Height) 5.2 and 3.6 = 4.4 feet. Then I half that average # of 4.4 ft which = 2.2 ft. That is usually the height of the waves on the beach.. Thigh high surf. It work about 90% of the time. Real swell and Nor' Easters creates more push so wave heights on the beach is greater.

Look for the waves to be thigh to maybe waist thru the weekend. . Have fun and get in the water. Here is the NWS Marine Forecast for the next couple of days..

The waves are very very small. Less than 1 ft and glassy on the beach. There's bait all in the surf today..11:45 am high tide. Buoy's reading 2 ft. at 6 sec.. calm now and the SW wind will fill in this afternoon. Not enough for waves. Will be a morning flatwater paddle in the creeks today..

Friend Justin Carder visits, 1st time Stand Up Surfing

Justin Carder returns to Hilton Head for visit and John Tolly ( Sunny Daze) take him out for a paddle surf.. Of all the first timers getting on a Stand Up, Justin had it wired in less than an hour. He had balance, paddling technique confidence on the board and was able to pick off several waves. Was pretty amazing watching him Stand Up for the first time. Looked like he has been on a SUP for months. the only other person who picked up SUP very quickly was our buddy Jamie Maples. Here are the pics of today.

The waves were 1 -2 ft pretty clean and gutless ''' Fun w/ A STAND UP '''' until the S.W. wind picked up around 10:30 am..Out Paddle Surfing were; Justin Carder, John Tolly, Chris Hughes , Jesse Cadman and Glen Barroncini, aka... T.B. in some circles. Enjoy .

First Full day of Summer, 6/21/08 Fun Waves

First day of summer and we has some little fun thigh high waves w/ a sneaker waist high set roll thru.. John and I paddled our SUP's and Scott Allan of ''Scott's Fish Market'' Surfed , He cought this long 50-60 yard right and fun little wedges that peaked through.. John and I had a blast on out SUP's. We must of caught 40-50 waves in our 2 hour session. Was good to get on wave with a little power. Today I finally was able to use my the Jimmy Lewis 10'-8'' . It caught waves pretty easy and is loose on the wave face. Was pretty stable in the onshore chop.. Bigger clean waves it will excell in, I'm sure. Pics of the waves before our session at 7 am..
